Social Science and Management take the highest jump in the prestigious QS World Rankings by Subject.

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has further strengthened its global position in the QS World University Rankings by Subject released today (4 March 2020). The QS World University Rankings by Subject assesses and ranks the world’s leading universities in individual subject areas, covering 48 subjects, grouped into five broad areas. The rankings help prospective students evaluate different schools offering subjects of their interest.

The University’s subject rankings were assessed based on four key components: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper and h-index.

Engineering and Technology have once again proved to be UOW’s best performers and continue to raise the University’s profile in the rankings, jumping 23 places to secure the 154th rank. In a first for UOW, Social Science and Management’s ranking rose 21 places to 196th position.

The University also saw improvements in rankings in Philosophy – placed in 151-200 band; Computer Science and Information Systems – placed in 151-200 band; Law – placed in 101-150 band and; Sociology and Statistics – placed in 101-150 band, joining the categories where UOW is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world.

UOW Vice-Chancellor, Paul Wellings CBE said the rankings reflect the University’s vision to grow consistently by delivering excellent qualitative as well as quantitative outcomes. The University has been continuously investing in its research and teaching, including building world-class infrastructure to provide an outstanding learning environment for students and research capabilities for staff.

“I’m pleased to see the University of Wollongong is continuing its progress towards becoming one of the world’s best research-intensive universities, committed to delivering world-class results,” Professor Wellings said. “These results demonstrate our academic excellence, outstanding industry connections and leadership as an institution committed to delivering impactful global solutions.”

UOW was also recently ranked the number one in NSW and second nationally in a recent survey done by Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) for employer satisfaction with its graduates.
